ArtReach Program
ArtReach is an arts-based rehabilitation program for adults and children recovering from spinal cord and other disabling injuries. ArtReach operates in Santa Clara Valley Medical Center’s award-winning Rehabilitation Center, ranked as one of the nation's top programs for patients with spinal cord and brain injuries. The program engages patients in art activities that help to increase their fine motor skills and gain a better level of control and ability to manipulate tools. Patients participate in sessions over time to build their endurance before returning home after an injury. Art has proven to be an important and inspiring component of patient rehabilitation with lasting impact. The VMC Foundation is working to identify funds to secure a specialist instructor for the weekly program, as well as to purchase art supplies.
Dance 4 Health
Dance 4 Health is a consortium of health care professionals who utilize dance to educate and encourage lifestyle modifications for long-term health and fitness. Partnering with community organizations, schools, and health care providers like Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, Dance 4 Health has proven to be an innovative approach to promoting good health. Youth and adult participants receive instruction in ballroom dance technique, physical discipline, and nutrition information. The VMC Foundation is partnering with Dance 4 Health to reach more youth through this program in an effort to curb the alarming and growing rates of Type II Diabetes affecting Santa Clara County’s children and families.
